2020 TOKYO OLYMPICS POSTPONED

The International Olympic Committee member Dick Pound has said that the 2020 Toyko Olympic Games will be postponed, likely to 2021.

On Sunday, the IOC President, Thomas Bach, said he was going to take the next four weeks to decide the fate of the Tokyo Olympics, scheduled to begin July 24. At that point, Bach had ruled out canceling the Games.

The Canadian Olympic Committee announced Sunday that its athletes would not go to the Games in Tokyo if they started on their scheduled date in July. Australia also hinted to something similar, but in a very less direct way.

This would the first time the Olympics have been suspended. Though they have been canceled previously during periods of war. The 1916 Summer Games were canceled as a result of World War One, as were the Summer and Winter Games in 1940 and 1944, due to ongoing World War Two.
