Report: Konecny close to bridge deal with Flyers

august 19, 2019
A radio host in Philadelphia claims the Flyers are close to a bridge deal with restricted free agent forward Travis Konecny. According to Jason Myrtetus, the contract would be for two to three years and carry an average annual value of around $4.5 million.

Konecny has been just shy of the 50 point mark in the last two seasons, posting 47 in 2017-2018 and 49 last year. If Myrtetus is correct, this would be a good deal for the Flyers, who are also trying to sign another big-name RFA in defenseman Ivan Provorov. According to Myrtetus, Provorov's status is much less certain at the moment, as his agent is waiting for other RFAs to sign to set the market. This is a familiar refrain during this off season as it seems most high profile RFAs are waiting for someone else to go first before inking their own deals. That someone is most likely Toronto's Mitch Marner.

According to CapFriendly, Philadelphia currently has about $13.5 million in cap space left, with Konecny and Provorov being the only two RFAs left that the team has to sign. Should Konecny sign for $4.5 million, that leaves $9 million to get Provorov under contract.
