'Grapeline' ending after 35 years

august 24, 2019
After 35 years and 4,200 shows, Don Cherry and Brian Williams are bring "Grapeline" to an end. The radio show was a staple for many Canadian radio stations since 1984. At it's peak, it aired on 100 stations across the country. But, nothing lasts forever and Cherry tells the Toronto Sun he and Williams decided it was time to end it.

Myself, Brian Williams and producer Prior Smith made the decision [Friday],” said the 85-year-old. “It was a tough one, I will tell you.”

Cherry says the demand was there for a 36th season, but all three decided the time to stop was now. However, this will not impact Cherry's return to Coach's Corner on Hockey Night in Canada when the new NHL season starts.

“I am good to go and always have been,” said Cherry. “I am looking forward to the 2019-2020 NHL season starting.”
