Montreal rumoured to be interested in Jesse Puljujärvi

august 24, 2019
An independent journalist based in Montreal says the Canadiens have shown interest in acquiring forward Jesse Puljujärvi from the Edmonton Oilers. According to Marc-Olivier Beaudoin, even though Puljujärvi has discussed an interest in playing for an American team, that doesn't mean he wouldn't accept a trade to the habs.

Translation: EXCLUSIVE: The #CH has indeed shown interest in Jesse Puljujärvi . The case would not be closed even though Puljujarvi has already mentioned that he would prefer to pursue his career in the USA. "Prefer" does not mean closing the door in Canada. #Habs#Canadiens

Beaudoin also states the fact that Montreal has three players from Puljujärvi's home country of Finland may help convince him make up his mind.

Translation: The presence of many Finns (Kotkaniemi / Armia / Lehkonen) might well convince him to accept MTL as a destination and promote its integration. Puljujarvi mentioned recently that he would like to play on a top 6 and there is clearly room on the right at #CH

There have been reports that some of the trouble Puljujärvi is having in Edmonton is his lack of understanding of the English language, and that he often misreads his on-ice assignments because of it.

The 21-year-old restricted free agent has demanded a trade from the Oilers, adding he will play in Europe until he is dealt to another team. While obviously offensively talented, the fourth overall pick in 2016 has had difficulty finding his scoring touch with Edmonton, registering just nine points in 46 games last season and only 37 points in 139 career games.
