Schneider waived in New Jersey

18 novembre 2019
In a surprising move, the New Jersey Devils have placed netminder Cory Schneider on waivers on Monday.

Schneider's struggles have been well documented in recent years, mostly due to injury, but it is beginning to appear as if time is catching up to the 33-year-old.

From the 2010-2011 season through the 2015-2016 season, Schenider was among the league's top goaltenders, posting a save percentage of .920 or better through each of those six seasons, averaging a sparkling 2.11 goals against average over that span.

Schneider only managed to start 26 games last season for the Devils, also playing 8 games for the team's AHL affiliate, the Binghamton Devils. His AHL totals last season were worse than his NHL totals.

This season, the former first round draft pick (26th overall in 2004) holds a 0-4-1 record for New Jersey to go with an atrocious .852 save percentage and an alarmingly bad 4.59 GAA.

The Devils have recalled goaltender Louis Domingue from the AHL.
